Bat Trang is one of Vietnam's traditional pottery villages, preserving not only the cultural characteristics of a traditional craft village but also renowned for its top-quality pottery production in the country. Bat Trang pottery village is located on the left bank of the Red River, now part of Bat Trang commune, Gia Lam district, Hanoi, more than 10km southeast of the city center. It is a famous traditional craft village known for its ceramic products.

This craft village was established during the Ly Dynasty. Over more than 500 years of history, through many ups and downs, the name Bat Trang has survived and continues to develop to this day. As a long-standing traditional pottery village, the skillful hands of many artisans in Bat Trang have created exquisite tea sets, bowls, plates, and even flower pots and bonsai trees, combining delicate and harmonious colors and patterns. Bat Trang ceramics are exceptionally unique. The production process involves two main stages: creating the ceramic body and decorating the patterns, followed by applying glaze. Furthermore, the ceramic body creation process includes many smaller steps: first, selecting the clay; then processing and mixing the clay; shaping the product as desired; and finally, drying and refining the shape. Each stage requires the skill of the craftsman to imbue each product with soul and spirit.

As one of the leading suppliers of ceramics nationwide, Bat Trang products always possess a distinctive character and stand out with their glazes. Common glaze colors include light green, white with a slight greenish tint, or gray, which are transparent and deep. In particular, Bat Trang has a type of glaze called "jade glaze," which has a color similar to jade, so many people often call it "jade glaze." Besides that, crackle glaze is a combination of black and white clay cracks, creating a unique harmony. Therefore, Bat Trang ceramic products are always beautiful, shiny, and the shapes and details of the patterns on the products are preserved over time without fear of damage or breakage.
