The history of Non Nuoc Stone Carving Village in Ngu Hanh Son
According to Le Quy Don's Phu Bien Tap Luc, Non Nuoc Stone Carving Village in Da Nang was founded in the 18th century by a man of Thanh Hoa origin named Huynh Ba Quat. He was one of the sons of a family with a tradition of crafting stone statues, so Huynh Ba Quat had a thorough understanding of selecting stone patterns and carving. In the first half of the 17th century, when he migrated to Non Nuoc to settle, he recognized the value of this cluster of marble mountains. He carved tombstones, and diligently extracted and shaped them into millstones, mortars for grinding spices and herbs, and many other items to sell to the local residents.
